La mujer lectora en el teatro barroco

Abstract

This study deals with one of the topics of Baroque theater such as the presence and defense of the woman reader on stage. As there are many examples of women reading a book in painting, the same scenes can be found in theater, an artistic mode of expression which keeps a very close relationship with painting. Therefore, the aim of this study is to provide as many examples as possible where the image of a reading woman or where female speech constitute the main issues on stage settings. The result can be seen in the large number and importance of the data found that is a starting point for a much broader compendium in which the genuine interest of women by culture can be observed. Moreover, this issue has a broader scope that leads us to a reflection on justice, freedom and conscience related to the importance of the female reader, as well as an evidence of social education at that time.
