Chapter | Bandello en el taller dramático de Lope
Abstract
The Italian novelle, particularly those of Boccaccio, Bandello, and Giraldi Cinzio, provide the narrative raw material for the plot of almost 10% of Lope’s theatrical production. Bandello stands out among these writers as a favorite ‘supplier’ for the playwright. The comparison between Si no vieran las mujeres and Carlos el perseguido by Lope and their respective Bandellian hypotexts allows scholars to examine the mechanisms and resources used by Lope in his intersemiotic translations. Furthermore, it constitutes a step in the description of the grammar of motives and functions we call ‘formula of the comedia nueva’, ultimately building toward, through a logical-semantic analysis, a formal model of Lope’s grammar.
