abstract

In the second act of the play El bautismo del príncipe de Marruecos, Lope de Vega depicts an vivid picture of the pilgrimage of the Virgen de la Cabeza in Andújar, one of the biggest religious events of 16th and 17th century Spain. In the Fénix’s representation some morisco figures appear. The article offers a reflection about a possible significance that the participation of the cristianos nuevos de moro gained within the scene drawn by the Spanish author in his drama.
