Abstract
Alonso de Castillo Solórzano, a writer of the generation of Baroque fiction writers after Cervantes, shows in both his narrative and short drama an ideological aversion to the possibility that his characters ascend in social rank. This fact is most evident in five of his own short dramatic pieces inserted into his narrative. In the interlude The Female Chestnut Roaster published in The Adventures of Bachelor Racket, Juana, a newcomer to the court, succeeds in deceiving different suitors who want to marry her by disguising her real lineage. Finally exposed by one of the courtiers she was trying to deceive, Juana gets a taste of her own medicine.
