Abstract
Through a study of the arrangement of characters lists in different editions of Jerónimo de Villaizán’s Ofender con la fineza, and also in the two Italian adaptations of the text, the first by Luigi Benedetti and Antonio Sacchi, and the second by Carlo Gozzi, this paper shows that Gozzi worked with Luigi Benedetti and Antonio Sacchi’s Italian version, and not with Villaizán’s original Spanish text. This leads to the hypothesis that the adaptations by Carlo Gozzi of works of the Spanish Golden Age are effectively works of collective authorship.
