El maestro Jiménez Patón y la oratoria sagrada
abstract
Bartolomé Jiménez Patón, known as ‘Maestro’ (Master), is considered to be one of the most important grammarians in the Spanish Golden Age, due in part to his Instituciones de la gramática española, but mostly as a result of what is considered his masterpiece, the Elocuencia española en arte. In addition to these works, the Master wrote in 1612 his Perfecto predicador, in which, in consonance with the edicts of the Council of Trent, he defends the exemplariness of preachers and their need for orthodoxy in the context of the religious controversy of his time.
