Da Venezia alle Alpi. L’esperienza del viaggiatore John Evelyn alla prova del libro
abstract
From the lived experience to the few lines of a book recounting it, the memories are reduced to faint but nonetheless significant traces. In the same years in which the noble libertine Ferrante Pallavicino travelled from Bergamo to Paris to finally be executed in Avignon, the Englishman John Evelyn was on his Grand Tour of the continent (1643-1647). If Venice appears to him wonderful and still flourishing with its various communities, far less familiar are the mountains with their rugged nature and wild animals. Although he is a traveller who is careful to inventory the various sequences of his itinerary in detail, this contrast refers us to a very selective perception of the territories.
