Antispagnolismo e dispregio della corte. Tassoni e Testi
abstract
In Fulvio Testi’s collection of poems (1627) contempt of the Court is recurrent, sometimes in a very harsh way. The article investigates beyond the literary cliché of the menosprecio de corte in order to explain the interaction of personal and political motivations: the dissatisfaction of the poet and diplomat who considers himself inadequately compensated for his services, the disdain for the Este court weak in reputation and subservient to Spain, the influence of Alessandro Tassoni and the admiration for the brave political and military behaviour of Charles Emmanuel I, Duke of Savoy.
