Problemas y transformaciones

Abstract

When we analyse the textual representation of the other in the first testimonies of the Indian Chronicles, one of the conclusions that we draw is that there is not a homogeneous image of otherness. The image of the Native American experiences many transformations along the Discovery progress and the Conquest. The first statements that describe the unsuccessful quest of the Seven Cities of Cíbola myth in the northern border of Nueva España reported on that. This article analyses the representation that the native towns in the northern part of México received in the “Discovery of the Seven Towns by father frail Marcos de Niza” and in the first written testimony of Francisco Vázquez de Coronado’s expedition, its letter to the viceroy dated August the 3rd, 1540.
