Capitolo | Lingue straniere e Bisogni Educativi Speciali
Abstract
The present chapter is divided into two parts. The first section provides an insight on Special Educational Needs and Foreign Languages in Europe. The authors discuss the education policies and the definitions of ‘disability’ provided by Member States, as well as the degree of inclusion of pupils with special needs within the mainstream educational system. At the end of the section some key-principles of the European education policies on this topic are discussed. The second part of the chapter focuses on Special Educational Needs and Foreign Languages in Italy. The authors discuss the category of ‘students with special needs’ according to the Italian legislation and school regulations and provide an insight on how foreign languages in Italian schools and universities should be taught to students with special needs.
