Abstract

MS Cambridge, University Library, Ff.4.47 contains a series of texts which have in common their use for educational purposes in Byzantium; it was copied by the hieromonk Sabbas of the Dionysiou monastery on Mount Athos in the first half of the 16th century. In the article, several missing quires from MS Ff.4.47 are identified in MSS Cambridge, University Library, Nn.3.14 and Leiden, Universitaire Bibliotheken, BPG 74 G. The palaeographic and codicological investigation on the manuscript allows moreover to reconstruct, at least in part, its history, and to take a look at some moments and contexts in which this book was used, particularly in the milieu of 18th century-English antiquarian scholar-collectors.
