The Integration of Language and Culture in Chinese as a Foreign Language Teaching at University Level
Literature, Movies and TV Dramas as Teaching Tools to Develop Intercultural Communicative Competence
Abstract
Language and culture are closely interconnected. Therefore, to obtain the so-called ‘intercultural communicative competence’, culture must be an essential part of Foreign Language teaching, including Chinese as a Foreign Language (CFL). Literature, films, and TV dramas are components of a culture; thus, they can effectively support the integration of language and culture study. This paper presents a teaching experiment, organized around the theme “Women and Their Relationship with Men”, that tried to integrate the two components in a workshop-based university course on Chinese literature for Italian and native Chinese-speaking students.
