La voce dietro le fiamme. Tradurre la lingua della violenza
Una lettura in chiave plurilingue de El traductor de Blumemberg, di Juan Mayorga
Abstract
Juan Mayorga’s El traductor de Blumemberg (1993) incorporates incendiary ideas and multiple languages, confirming that ideas not only travel through space or are simply translated, but are also capable of crossing time and, above all, of infecting individuals. Memory and oblivion, word and silence, cyclicality and progress may constitute territories with blurred boundaries; nevertheless, it is difficult – and perhaps inappropriate – not to imbue them with a moral dimension. Through an investigation of the play’s multilingual vocation, also in relation to other subsequent works by Mayorga, such as La intérprete and El Golem, this article examines these aspects and the ways in which they call into question both individuals and contemporary society.
