I ritratti ‘parlanti’ dei dogi
Riflessioni sulle effigi dei principi e sui loro cartigli
abstract
This study focuses on the series of the official portraits of Venetian Doges located under the ceiling of Sala del Maggior Consiglio and Sala dello Scrutinio in Palazzo Ducale. Particular attention is paid to the historical excursus of the series since, whose origin dates back to the second half of the fourteenth century, and to the Latin inscriptions that are the characterizing elements of the portraits.
