Abstract

This article focuses Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco’s presidency of the Italian Bishops’ Conference from 2007, when he was appointed by Benedict XVI, to 2017, under the pontificate of Francis. Several issues that have characterised his thinking and work are considered here, such as the family, the job urgency, the value of Christian education, immigration and the importance of human life, particularly his position against abortion and on the ‘end-of-life’ laws. Relationships between Bagnasco, Benedict XVI and Francis are also explored.
