Presentazione di Venezia Africana. Arte, cultura, persone
Intervista a Luca Cosentino e Shaul Bassi
Abstract
his interview presents the Wetlands editorial project and its publication Venezia Africana by Shaul Bassi and Paul Kaplan (Venice, 2024) which investigates the historical and contemporary African presence in Venice through a multidisciplinary artistic lens. The discussion explores the conceptual foundation of the project, emphasizing the choice of a hybrid format that functions as both a creative and critical counternarrative. Furthermore, the interview provides insights on Afropean identity through a reinterpretation of Shakespeare’s Venetian outsiders, Othello and Shylock, positioning them as symbolic figures through which issues of race, displacement, and cultural hybridity are interrogated.
