Abstract
This essay explores the emergence of Iberian Studies in the United States in the context of the transformation of the profession at the end of the twentieth century and at the start of the twenty-first. By reconstructing the trajectory of some distinguished scholars in the field and the sense of their methodological approaches, I try to contextualize the transformation of the academic field and the reasons behind the ephemeral consolidation of the Iberian Studies. Finally, the article proposes some ideas to rethink the future of Iberianism in the American Academia.
