Abstract

Doing Language Education today means not being able to ignore a strong political stance in the sense of constant attention to today’s social phenomena and communication issues. The third sector is exploring areas and new frontiers to make different actors in society interact, focusing on issues related to social inclusion, multilingualism, and methodologies: there is still a lot of work to be done, many channels of communication between national authorities and experts/operators in the sector are still missing. A factor to be taken into the utmost consideration is ‘linguistic disadvantage’, understood in the broadest sense as a condition of difficulty in the development of the linguistic and communicative skills necessary for full participation in school and society. Language disadvantage includes learners with language and learning disorders, or with intellectual and sensory disabilities that strongly affect language acquisition, as well as nonItalian-speaking pupils, and those who come from a context of socio-cultural deprivation: prison.
