Il ‘Patriarca verde’ Bartolomeo I: la missione eco-teologica e il rilancio dell’Ortodossia

Abstract

Increasingly, religions are being called upon to rethink their positions in light of the issues raised by the current ecological crisis. This challenge particularly concerns Christianity, which is often regarded as the cultural progenitor of this crisis, having imparted to the West a model of the relationship between humanity and nature based on anthropocentric asymmetry. However, Orthodox Christianity has not received adequate attention in studies on this topic. Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople has proven to be an influential and international figure in his efforts to promote ecological sensitivity and to revalue traditional Christianity as a solution to the crisis.
