Descrizione

Edizioni Ca’ Foscari at the International Medieval Congress 2025 – Leeds

Edizioni Ca’ Foscari is pleased to announce its participation in the upcoming International Medieval Congress, which will take place in Leeds from 7 to 10 July 2025. This year’s theme is Worlds of Learning. As part of the programme, the following session will be presented:

Defending the Faith: Reorganising and Transmitting Theological Knowledge in Byzantium’s Long 12th Century

organised by Alessandra Bucossi (Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia) and Niccolò Zorzi (Università degli Studi di Padova), moderated by Margherita Losacco (Università degli Studi di Padova).

The session explores the reorganisation and transmission of theological knowledge in Komnenian Byzantium, focusing on the works of Andronikos Kamateros, Euthymios Zigabenos, and Niketas Choniates, in connection with the consolidation and dissemination of Orthodox doctrine during the long 12th century.

Two Editorial Projects Evolving from International Conferences

The session is part of the scientific and editorial activities of two academic series published by Edizioni Ca’ Foscari: Alterum Byzantium and Byzantine Studies.

Both series are the outcome and natural continuation of the scholarly dialogue initiated during major international conferences – particularly the 24th International Congress of Byzantine Studies – with the aim of offering the academic community authoritative venues for publishing innovative research in Byzantine studies.

These editorial initiatives are designed to reflect the richness and complexity of Byzantine literary, theological, and cultural production, and to support the dissemination of critical editions, translations, and interpretative studies of key sources.
