Abstract

This essay aims to analyze the role of illness in Jorge Luis Borges’s short story “El Sur”, which was published in Ficciones in 1944. The essay highlights narrative elements related to the author’s biography and the use of illness as a foundational component of the neo-fantastic narrative mode that characterizes the story.
