Abstract

This article analyzes how two contemporary Peruvian writers document systemic racism in Spain in their literary works. Taking into account Gabriela Wiener’s novel, Huaco retrato (2021), and Rocío Quillahuaman’s memoir, Marrón (2022), as well as various theoretical postulates on the coloniality of power, the article pays attention to coloniality, white supremacy, marginalization, and discrimination against the Latin American immigrant in the Iberian Peninsula. As they document a real problem, both writers—the critic argues—empower themselves through their writing, legitimizing their Peruvian origin, their choledad, the color of their skin, their difference and otherness.
