Abstract

The objective of this essay is to facilitate a critical discussion of Latin American writer documentaries. The study begins with a definition of author figuration, and of ‘writer documentaries’, to address the types of writer documentaries that exist and their relationship with ‘autotheory’. In the following analysis, the critic examines the manner in which these documentaries influence the public’s perception of the author and the canonization of their oeuvre. For the purpose of this study, the documentary 327 cuadernos, directed by Andrés Di Tella, is employed as a case study. This documentary is about the writer Ricardo Piglia.
