Le esposizioni internazionali della Secessione romana 1913-16. Una rilettura

Abstract

The four International Art Exhibitions of the Roman Secession (1913-16) were a brief and unrepeatable experience near to European currents and to the newest Italian art. These exhibitions however have long been considered minor and partly forgotten manifestations. A century later, the exhibition Secessione e Avanguardia. L'arte in Italia prima della Grande Guerra. 1905-1914 held in 2014 at the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna in Rome was an opportunity to re-read those exhibitions, comparing them with the similar Venetian initiatives set up at Ca' Pesaro and with the Futurist exhibitions hosted at the art gallery opened in Rome by Giuseppe Sprovieri. The re-making gave us the comprehension of a more lively cultural context, between ideological modernism and secessionist politics but also avant-garde revolution, but also a reflection on the impact of those events on the history of contemporary art.
