Spolia dalla necropoli opitergina: monumenta
Abstract
This paper takes into consideration four sepulchral monuments, datable between the end of the first century B.C. and the first century A.D., reused in the various wall structures brought to light during the excavation of the old city prisons of Oderzo, conducted between 1992-94. These are two rare cylindrical altars, both datable to the second half of the first century B.C., which find close comparisons with the oldest examples of the series, in particular from Altino. A funerary urn decorated with the figures of two dancing maenads is then examined, which bears an incredible resemblance to another specimen conserved in the local archaeological museum. The fourth monument is a very elegant stele, datable to the second half of the first century A.D., inside which there are portraits of six characters.
