Capitolo | Reorientación de la práctica multicultural
Abstract
This essay considers two recent trends related to postcolonial immigration and Spanish emigration in transnational Spanish cinema. One trend by several Spanish filmmakers is to create a larger narrative space for postcolonial immigrants, especially from sub-Saharan backgrounds, who have settled in Spain and undergo a process of acculturation. A second trend is how transnational cinema reconfigures multicultural experiences as a result of young Spanish emigrants who settle in other European Union member states. Albeit these two migration experiences may not seem as the same, this paper will argue that grasping an analysis of these two specific trends can tell us how Spanish filmmakers reorient the viewers in understanding different ways of multicultural practice and family models in Spain.
