Two volumes. Vol. 1: translation; vol. 2: commentary. The translation is based on the text established by Poppo 1843-1851.

The translation was republished in 1883 with a new preface by Peabody, was revised in 1900 by Abbott and Forbes, reprinted in 1960 with new introductory essays by Hanson Baldwin and Moses Hadas and, in 1942, with additional notes and a new introdution by Francis Godolphin. In 1963 Brunt published an abridged version – see Brunt 1963. In 1919 Gilbert Murray extracted and republished a selection of speeches from Jowett's translation: see Murray 1919.
