abstract

The aim of this paper is to describe the Southern pre-Roman necropolis in Oderzo, discovered in 2005, named Opera Pia Moro. The main feature is the organisation of the space with circular and oval mounds, just as recognisable in other Iron age Venetic necropoleis. We identify seven different phases and fifteen mounds, two of them without graves, while the others collect from one to fourteen graves together. One horse-grave laid under mound XII and another one next to mound I. The first horse was harnessed with his rich bit and both the horse and the bit are now exhibited in the Museum in Oderzo. Some interesting and typical objects and contexts are offered, to emphasise the features of the funerary ritual in Oderzo.
