abstract

My work focuses on the small anthology of love letters of the poet Jorge de Montemayor, some in octosyllabic verse, which he calls «cartas», and others in hendecasyllabic verse, which he calls «epístolas». All of them are addressed to women. The octosyllabic-verse letter appears to be less representative in the courtly epistolary universe and less fascinating in the eyes of the critics than the so called «epístola horaciana». However, I thought convenient and necessary to study the seven love letters of Jorge de Montemayor (six in his Anthology and one in La Diana). I will establish a network of concordances and differences between the two types of letters and I will analyze conveniently their forms, thematic content, origins and development.
