Dalla ‘Pompei delle Alpi’ alla storia di un paesaggio alpino nel medioevo

Abstract

The paper presents the framework in which the project on the Piuro site and on the study of soapstone was developed. The themes and approaches adopted are illustrated. In particular we focus on the characteristics of the area, the topography and the activities carried out. An important written source regarding a letter from Pier Damiani from the eleventh century is also examined. The excavation sequence of the Piuro site is then illustrated, with reference only to the early medieval phases.
