Abstract
Sessantaquattro anni prima che un marinaio italiano arrivasse sul posto, Fort Missoula fu istituito come postazione militare permanente. L’omonimo insediamento, che sorgeva nei pressi, cresceva di giorno in giorno e gli abitanti bianchi temevano un conflitto con le tribù di nativi americani del Montana occidentale. Fort Missoula, un ‘forte aperto’, sarebbe stato costruito nel 1877 per fornire protezione e sostenere lo sviluppo economico all’area
