Abstract
In this study, we have analysed colloquialisation processes in TV football broadcasts through changes in lexicon. To do so, the variation models from Koch & Oesterreicher’s and Val.Es.Co.’s have been employed. We have manually compiled a database of TV matches distributed in ten-year micro-diachronic periods: 1960‑70, 1970‑80, 1980‑90. In turn, these samples have been compared to some written sports chronicles. Results show that written chronicles and TV oral broadcasts were very similar until the 1980s, as evidenced by the high degree of formal similarity they share from a lexical perspective, as well as by the variation parameters employed in the analysis. Their similarity seems to be decreased over time towards a less-specialised, often colloquial, use of language, especially after technical changes in broadcasts (one speaker vs. two or more speakers, further images, replays, pre- and post- interviews, etc.).
