Migration, Checkpoints und Komplexitätsregimes

Uljana Wolfs Lyrik einer ‚haltlosen Komplexität‘

Abstract

The article examines the specific connection between migration/border regimes and complexity. Niklas Luhmann unfolds the concept of complexity as a maximum offer of forms on the basis of a reduction of complexity that is necessary for the system. Under the pressure of complexity, which becomes apparent precisely at the boundaries of the system, the system is pushed to develop further. Such a model of complexity can be productively applied to migrants’ border contacts and crossings: Uljana Wolf’s collection of poems “Aliens” deals with historical and contemporary border crossings, whereby Wolf’s erasure process visibly reduces complexity and thus exposes the complex wealth of forms in the first place.
