Research Article | Evaluation in Ancient Greek Learning
A Contribution to a Comparison of the Inductive-Contestual and Grammar-Translation Methods
Abstract
In the teaching of Ancient Greek and Latin, the method of contextual induction can be used instead of the traditional grammar translation method. The method of contextual induction aims at reproducing the natural way children learn their native language. The two methods were put to the test in analogous classes of two Italian school adopting the one or the other approach. A cloze test and a multiple choice test were administered. The method of contextual induction seems to ensure a better learning outcome, since it leads the student to feel the language as a living context.
