Abstract

In today’s society, ruled by phenomena such as consumerism, consumption, commodification, individualization, and adiaphorization, people are more than ever subjected to social injustice and indifference. This article dwells on Zygmunt Bauman’s take on social inequality and its consequences on people. It begins by analysing his early view, centred on the ideas of ‘class’ and ‘class conflict’, in order to better understand his later production. Having shed light on the social consequences of liquid modernity, the focus will then shift on the moral implications arising from Bauman’s perspective of the contemporary way of life.
