Mount Athos as the Holy Mountain: Between Ekphrasis and Patriographic Literature
Abstract
The article is devoted to the definition of Athos as the 'Holy Mountain': on the one hand, its history and the tradition of the encomium and the ekphrasis, and on the other, the tradition of patriography, as recorded in hagiography and later in collections such as the Patria of Mount Athos.
