Abstract

The study of food in past cultures is fundamental for understanding multiple facets of everyday life. The text will present a short excursus of the archaeometric method and the first results from the study of the culinary use of soapstone vessels in the early medieval context of Nogara (VR). These results were made possible by applying the palaeoproteomic technique to food residues encrusted on the pot walls. The preliminary data independently confirm the previously investigated archaeozoological data and allow us to appreciate the scope of this new archaeometrical approach, offering considerations for future research developments.
