Alla ricerca d’una diplomazia democristiana clandestina nella Spagna franchista
Il caso catalano (1947-64)
Abstract
The study of clandestine Christian Democratic diplomacy in Spain between 1947 and 1964 illuminates the ways in which sectors of democratic Catholicism devised strategies of symbolic and political opposition to Francisco Franco’s regime. Through an examination of pivotal events – such as the Montserrat Festivals of 1947, the Eucharistic Week of 1952, and the Mediterranean Colloquia promoted by Giorgio La Pira – it is possible to reconstruct the transnational networks of solidarity that emerged between progressive Catalan Catholics and the broader European Christian Democratic left. Despite the pervasive repression, Catalan Catholicism succeeded in sustaining a cultural and spiritual form of resistance, deeply rooted in religious and linguistic identity.
