Capitolo | The Hydrohumanities and Latin America
Abstract
This essay examines the state of the humanities with a focus on water issues in Latin America, establishing connections to indigeneity and social justice. It also highlights Latin America’s leadership in best practices, sustainability, and water conservation projects. The essay reviews academic studies on the topic and analyzes how violence against environmental activists in the region is reflected in its cultural production, including literature, films, and documentaries. Finally, it advocates for the integration of humanities studies – specifically those centered on water – as a means to address current environmental crises.
