L’autonomia della volontà. Da facultas umana a volontà di potenza
Abstract
The paper investigates the multiple conceptual layers that ‘will’ has assumed throughout Western thought. Starting from the Greek conception of boulesis and the Latin notion of voluntas, it examines the various transformations of this concept as a human faculty that is independent of the realm of knowledge in the works of Descartes, Kant, Schopenhauer, and Nietzsche. The discussion concludes with a brief examination of Heidegger’s thesis on the overcoming of ‘will’ as the extreme form of Western metaphysical conceptuality, which has influenced the calculating thought of planetary technology.
