La formazione di LISt per traduttori/interpreti: verso una ‘competenza sensoriale’

Abstract

In translating to and from tactile sign languages used by deafblind people, such as LISt (Tactile Italian Sign Language), the senses play an important role. This work explores the importance of dwelling on the senses within the teaching of LISt, when training future translators/interpreters. A Master’s degree of the University of Catania (academic year 2021‑22) is taken into consideration. The reflection is centred on touch and its cognitive role: considering the link between touch and emotions, we focus on the importance of considering the tactile translation process as a relational process. Applying this awareness to LISt teaching for translators/interpreters allows to observe the potential not only of touch, but also of sensory competence.
