La concezione della storia di Galeazzo Gualdo Priorato
La querelle Wallenstein nella cultura italiana e nella produzione dell’Accademia degli Incogniti
abstract
This article is dedicated to the reception in Italian culture of one of the events that most affected European public opinion in the 17th century, the fall of Wallenstein. By placing Galeazzo Gualdo Priorato’s production in the context of the Italian language political historiography of the time, the study aims at a critical re-evaluation of Gualdo Priorato as an intellectual capable of offering a much sought-after product, the ‘histories of the present century’. The case of the volume he dedicated to Wallenstein in 1643 is interpreted here, on the basis of many unknown details, in relation to the echo the affair had in Venetian circles.
