Abstract
This paper aims to study the role of proper names within a philological and linguistic analysis, focusing on the Catalan Version (K) of Marco Polo’s work. First, the paper mentions the main features of proper names; then, it offers a sketch of the textual tradition of the Devisement du Monde and introduces the case of K Version. Finally, it studies a series of proper names taken from K, whose graphic and phonetic form reveals the linguistic origin and history of the Catalan Version.
