Edgar Cardew Marchant (1864-1960), classical scholar, Sub-Rector of Lincoln College, Oxford. Educated at New College, Oxford, Marchant became a Fellow of Peterhouse, Cambridge, before pursuing a long teaching career at University College School in London. Marchant contributed significantly to the Loeb Classical Library, publishing English translations and Greek texts of Thucydides and Xenophon's Hellenica and Memorabilia.

Text and commentary, with an appendix including the translation of Thuc. 2.34-46 (Pericles' Funeral Oration). Greek text based on Bekker's edition. Republished in 1982 with an introduction by Thomas Wiedemann – see Wiedemann-Marchant 1982.
