Edgar Cardew Marchant (1864-1960), classical scholar, Sub-Rector of Lincoln College, Oxford. Educated at New College, Oxford, Marchant became a Fellow of Peterhouse, Cambridge, before pursuing a long teaching career at University College School in London. Marchant contributed significantly to the Loeb Classical Library, publishing English translations and Greek texts of Thucydides and Xenophon's Hellenica and Memorabilia.

Text and commentary on Book 2 by Marchant 1891, edited with a new introduction by Thomas Ernst Josef Wiedemann (1950-2001), a Roman historian and faculty member in the Department of Classical Studies at the University of Bristol, later appointed Professor of Latin at the University of Nottingham in 1997.
