Abstract
This volume brings together the papers presented at the Food and S.T.O.N.E.S. conference (Venice, 9-11 May 2024) and explores the economic and social structures of the Early Middle Ages in the Adriatic region. It focuses on stone artefacts, metal objects, glass, and amphorae, re-examined through innovative analytical frameworks within an integrated methodology that places written sources in critical dialogue with archaeological evidence. This approach has enabled the reconstruction of material provenance and the identification of ancient riverine and maritime sites. The project’s findings are further enriched by the theoretical contributions of the conference discussants.
