Abstract
Analyzes the changes and tensions in the port city of Santos in part of the nineteenth century and early decades of the twentieth, reflecting with various documents, including the travel accounts. Analysis is organized under three headings entitled: the feverish port: epidemics; port: sanitation and control and the port city: connections, travel and looks; Finally, some concluding remarks, called ‘looks, reports and representations’.
