Gli umanisti e le epistole in volgare

Il caso di Francesco Filelfo

Abstract

The first part of the paper consists in a report about the preliminary results from the critical edition of Filelfo’s letters in vernacular language still in progress. In the second part the author draws a parallel between Francesco Filelfo and other humanists who wrote, like him, letters both in Latin and in vernacular language (i.e. Angelo Poliziano, Giovanni Pontano and Giovanni Pico). Having underlined similarities and differences, the aim of the parallel is to carry out a more in depth analysis on the topics and the style of Filelfo’s letters. Finally, the paper try to better understand the complex relationship between Filelfo and the literature in vernacular language by republishing the autograph document with the index of Filelfo’s complete works together with a new commentary.
