Progetti, prestiti, palinsesti: stratigrafia di una traduzione quattrocentesca del Corano (ms. Vat. Ebr. 357, fol. 51r-156r)
Abstract
This article reveals the latest advances in the study of interlinear translations and marginal glosses left by Flavius Mithridates on the Arabic Qur’an in Hebrew characters in ms. Vat. Ebr. 357 (fol. 51r-156r). We can now demonstrate that Flavius Mithridates probably used one or more Latin (and possibly Romance) translations to compose his fragmentary interlinear translation of this text, and that his marginal notes are based on a pre-existing Latin translation of Muslim exegetical texts. Furthermore, in the second sura, another anonymous translator probably used a vernacular translation of the Qur’an to translate certain words into Latin.
