Elektras Umpolung durch den handelnden Sklavinnenchor und die Verwebung der Handlungsfäden zur Racheaktion in den Choephoren des Aischylos
Abstract
This paper focuses on Electra’s role and the poetic make-up of the first part of the Choephori. From the beginning, the chorus of female slaves from Asia sets the tragic events in motion, which revolve around revenge and are based on the belief in the restlessness of the dead. The women manage to transform Electra’s libation, sent by Clytemnestra with the Chorus to appease the murdered Agamemnon, into a necromantic ritual to receive his assistance from the underworld. After such reversal, discussed in detail, her role in the recognition scene and the kommos is to align herself with Orestes and weave him, with the Chorus, into the texture of the revenge plot through vocal and embodied expression in lament.
